For over the past 14 years Tania Love has been working with nature, both as an inspiration and as a medium. Her sensitivity towards nature helped create a process of working with alternative materials such as paints and inks that are derived from plants or natural ingredients, as well as the use of low-impact reclaimed or recycled items.
Her entire process is an accumulation of nature at its finest as every piece is an extension of what moves her in the environment that she is in. This comes from traveling abroad to places like India, where she stayed for two months, learning about alternative pigment, dyes, paper and fibers. During this time period, Tania fell in love with the natural papers as the processes was quite rigorous, resulting in an end product that was unique and beautiful. The paper had been made from recycled textile ends (remnants from the clothing industry) then hung like clothing on lines which allowed the paper to maintain its texture without being flattened. Usually this paper is put through a press after being dried, but Love was drawn to the unique textures and kept them without going through the final process.
With an education from The University of Guelph and currently based out of Toronto, Tania Love has had work on display at various national galleries such as the Cambridge Galleries, The Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art and Katherine Mulherin Art Projects. On an international level, Love has been involved in exhibitions and residencies in New York State, Poland and India. York University has recently acknowledged Love for her contribution towards the ecological art movement and has invited her to take part in their Staging Sustainability conference, which will be held at the university on April 20-22, 2011.
